Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport sees H1 cargo traffic rise 2pc

Sheremetyevo International Airport processed 148,000 tonnes of cargo and 22,000 tonnes of mail in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of two per cent.
The airport is the top performer for cargo volumes in the Moscow air cluster, after its total share of cargo volumes in the cluster rose to 67 per cent in the first six months of the year, up from 61 per cent over the same period in 2018.
This increase in market share is due to the growth of cargo traffic (to 111,000 tonnes) for international airlines - a year-on-year increase of 2.6 per cent. The volume of cargo traffic for domestic airlines remained the same as 2018 at 37,000 tonnes, reported London's Air Cargo News.
In the first six months of 2019, the export volumes of international airlines rose by 45 per cent compared with the same period last year. Domestic lines saw volumes go up by 10 per cent in export cargo and by 20 per cent in transfer cargo.
Cargo destined for China, Germany, the Netherlands and the US accounted for half of total cargo traffic. The largest increase in export and transit cargo from January to June 2019 was recorded at Liege, Milan, Hong Kong and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airports. As for import and transit volumes, the biggest boost was recorded at Chongqing, Beijing, Seoul and Paris airports.
