Launch of direct container shipping service from Wuhan to Osaka

Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province and located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, will this year see the start of a direct container shipping service to Osaka, Japan.
This development is the result of Wuhan Xingang Datong International Shipping Co, a subsidiary of Central China Logistics Corporation, signing a cooperation agreement with Ben Line Agencies (Japan) Ltd to jointly promote the direct shipping line in Japan.
This new transportation mode that combines river and sea passage will offer foreign trade enterprises a more economical shipping route from China to Japan and help promote the region's economic development, reported Xinhua.
Wuhan to Japan waterway express routes for containers and direct shipping routes for bulk cargo have been launched in recent years, greatly enhancing the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, said deputy director of the provincial transport department Wang Benju.
On June 12, Wuhan's first 500-TEU containership, named "Central China Logistics Hanya 1," set sail on its maiden voyage bound for Japan. The ship will be put into operation by the end of 2019.
In 2018, the total import and export volume between Hubei and Japan amounted to US$4.16 billion, and 70 per cent of the exported goods were transported by water to Japan.
