China's crude oil imports from Saudi Arabia surge in first half

China's crude oil imports from Saudi Arabia surged in the first half of the year, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs, while imports from the US plummeted, said Caixin.
Oil inflows from Saudi Arabia hit 37.8 million tonnes in the first half of 2019, up 38.5 per cent year on year, making Saudi the largest source of China's crude.
China imported 2.12 million tonnes of crude oil from the US in the first six months of this year, down 76.2 per cent from a year earlier, according to data from China Customs.
China's increasing demand for Saudi Arabian oil is due in part to the needs of the new refinery complex in Dalian, in northeast China's Liaoning province, which had promised to buy more crude oil from the Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Saudi Aramco), Saudi Arabia's main energy production and sales company, said Li Yan, an analyst with Shandong-based energy and chemical information provider OilChem China.
