Brussels Airport's air freight volumes tumble 10.5pc in July

  15.08.2019

Brussels airport recorded a 10.5 per cent year-on-year decrease in cargo traffic in July. The drop in air freight volume was registered across all segments and was largely attributed to rising economic uncertainty, as indicated by statistics published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The full freighter segment suffered a drop 20 per cent in July, owing to the loss of some airline customers at the start of the year, reported Mumbai's STAT Trade Times.
Integrator services contracted by 4.1 per cent, a slightly smaller decline than in recent months thanks to a reduction in air traffic control disruptions.
Belly cargo was down by 6.4 per cent, while trucked cargo decreased 13.5 per cent.
However, the airport welcomed a record 2.7 million passengers in July, representing growth of 2.7 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier, according to traffic statistics released by the airport.
The strong growth of Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines and United Airlines, led to a four per cent year-on-year increase in long-haul passenger traffic.
For short-haul flights, the strongest growth was recorded at Brussels Airlines, Ryanair, TAP Air Portugal, Aeroflot, Lufthansa, SAS, Air Arabia, Finnair, Iberia, Vueling and airBaltic.
