Bollore Transport & Logistics opens Abidjan multipurpose logistics hub

Bollore Transport & Logistics has opened its new multimodal logistics hub, Aerohub, in Abidjan.
The inauguration event was attended by Ivory Coast Transport Minister Amadou Kone, Minister of Trade Souleymane Diarrassouba and Bollore Logistics chief executive officer Thierry Ehrenbogen.
The Aerohub will receive, store and distribute via a tri-temperature platform (frozen, positive cold, ambient temperature) goods intended for Ivory Coast and sub-regional market for companies in the mass retail, telecoms, pharmaceutical and catering sectors, reported the American Journal of Transportation.
The facility is located at the Felix Houphouet Boigny airport and close to the port of Abidjan, making it a connection point between international sea and air logistics flows as well as final consumers.
Some EUR6 million (US$6.621 million) has already been invested to launch the first phase of the project, out of a total EUR12 million earmarked in the long term.
Promoting sustainable logistics in West Africa, Aerohub stands apart through the integration of innovative systems designed to minimise the carbon footprint of its operations. It is equipped with a low energy consumption (LED) lighting system with movement detectors and a storm-water holding reservoir, together with electric handling equipment that eventually will be powered by solar panels.
