Doris Leuthard recommended for election to the Board of Directors

  21.11.2019

The Board of Directors of Stadler has nominated Doris Leuthard and will recommend her for election to the Board of Directors at the General Assembly to be held on 30 April 2020. This would make her the second female member of the Board which – currently – consists of eight members.
Former Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will stand for election to the Board of Directors at the 29th General Assembly of Stadler, which will be the first General Assembly of Stadler as a listed company. The current Board of Directors unanimously supports the candidacy of Doris Leuthard, who was the Swiss transport minister for many years. It will recommend her for election at the General Assembly to be held on 30 April.
«We are delighted that Doris Leuthard has agreed to strengthen the ranks of our Board of Directors. Thanks to her proven specialist expertise in matters relating to traffic and infrastructure, as well as her political experience as a former Federal Councillor and transport minister, she will be a significant asset to the Board of Directors and to Stadler», says Chairman of the Board of Directors Peter Spuhler.
By submitting her candidature for next year, Doris Leuthard is observing the grace period required as a result of her political career. Doris Leuthard was head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications from 2010 until December 2018. Prior to that, she was head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs. She was President of Switzerland in 2010 and 2017. From 1999 until her election to the Federal Council, she was a member of the National Council of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP). She held a leading role within the CVP from 2001 onwards, initially as Vice-President and subsequently as President. Doris Leuthard began her professional career as a jurist and lawyer in the canton of Aargau. Following her departure from the Federal Council, in 2019 Doris Leuthard was elected to the Boards of Directors of Coop, Bell Food Group and Transgourmet.
She is not the only reputed member of the Stadler Board of Directors. Most recently, Barbara Egger-Jenzer, former state councillor of the canton of Bern, became the first female member of the Stadler Board of Directors following her election at this year’s General Assembly in March.
