Late Chairman of Hanjin Shipping received award
The Port of Long Beach presented "Honorary Port Pilot Award" to Sooho Cho, late Chairman of Hanjin Shipping, in recognition of his contribution to the port's development.
Mrs. Eun Young Choi, the wife of the late Chairman, received the award from Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard D. Steinke visiting Hanjin Shipping Headquarters on 8th February.
Mr. Richard D. Steinke remarked, "I am grateful to Hanjin Shipping for contributing to the development of the local economy by creating jobs and many other ways in this area since 1991. The late Chairman Sooho Cho had excellent management skills, which led the company to a world class status. I hope our continued relationships will benefit the economic development of the United States and South Korea."
Upon receiving the award, Mrs. Choi said: "On behalf of my late husband, I am truly honored to receive the distinction from the Port of Long Beach. I hope to see the continuous mutual growth of Hanjin Shipping and the Port of Long Beach contributing to the world economy as well as the local economy."
The Honorary Port Pilot Award has been presented to those individuals who have significant achievements in shipping and international trade since 1954. The winners of the award include former US presidents D. David Eisenhower and Ronald W. Reagan and former prime minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew.
Hanjin Shipping opened its dedicated terminal at the Port of Long Beach in 1991. The 375-acre terminal is the second largest dedicated container terminal in the United States.
In particular, the eco-friendly terminal was recognized by Environmental Protection Agency as an excellent eco-complex for its attention to eco-consciousness in the every stage of its construction including the terminal design.
