Record year for traffic at the Port of Helsinki

  19.02.2007

The volume of unitised cargo traffic passing through the Port of Helsinki reached almost 10.3
million tonnes last year. The increase was 5% over the previous year in spite of a near-complete
end to transshipment traffic between Helsinki and St. Petersburg. In 2005, the share of
transshipment traffic was 7% and only 0.5% last year.
Helsinki strengthened its position as the main port of Finnish foreign trade. Finnish export and
import transport through the Port of Helsinki increased by 11%. The highest increase was in the
service between Helsinki and Travemünde.
The number of passengers on scheduled ships decreased from 8.8 million to more than 8.5 million.
The Tallinn service had 200,000 fewer passengers.
International cruise ship traffic reached record numbers. There were 257 cruise ship calls, an
increase of 4% over the previous year. Ships carried 270,000 passengers, an increase of 13%.
