DHL announces the launch of a new direct flight from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Seoul (ICN). The flight will make it possible to organize express delivery of heavy weight shipments between the Russian Far East and Asia Pacific region.
In response to customer needs and demand, extension of geographical routes is one of the priorities of DHL’s worldwide development. As the market leader in express-delivery and logistics, DHL tracks and promptly responds to the latest world trends, implementing them into its services. Over recent years (2001-2006), DHL has invested more than $1.7 billion US Dollars in the Asia-Pacific region.
During the past few years, import-export ties between the countries in the Asia-Pacific region and Russia have been developing intensively. Parts, materials and equipment for oil & gas projects, FMCG products, household appliances, food products etc. are imported to Russia from China, Korea and Japan, while Russia exports hydrocarbon materials, timber and fish. Thus, the new flight from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Seoul will contribute to further develop trade relations between the countries in the region, as Seoul (ICN airport) (where the world’s third largest airport, Incheon, is located) is the main transport hub of the Asia-Pacific region.
“This vital air-link between Sakhalin and South Korea is good news for DHL and DHL’s customers who want to transport heavyweight shipments into and out of the region. In the past DHL’s material had to fly on passenger aircraft, restricting size and weights to that of passenger baggage. Now that this problem has been resolved, we are sure that our customers will appreciate this enhancement in our service. The new flight will enable DHL to offer services for much heavier consignments to its customers, on an Express basis”, commented Neil Cushen, DHL Area Manager, Russia Far East.
Cargo delivery on the new route between Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Seoul will be implemented by the AN-12 airplane, three times a week.
