Already for the third time in a row, the readers of the German technical magazines “Fernfahrer“, “lastauto omnibus“, and “trans aktuell“ agreed in unison: ZF is the number one for commercial vehicle transmissions. In 2007 again, for the selection of the etm-Verlag (publisher) in the category "best brands", the automotive supplier safely won the first place for transmissions.
“We are particularly delighted by the repeated recognition of and trust in our products voiced by the readers of the magazines!” said Wolfgang Vogel, Group Executive of the Commercial Vehicle and Special Driveline Technology division and member of the Board of Management, ZF Friedrichshafen AG. “After all, this is indeed evidence of the fact that our transmissions live up to their promises, reliability and economic viability!” Already in the last two years, the top position in the "transmission" product group was held by ZF. The award was presented to the company on June 20, 2007, in the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion (stadium) in Stuttgart/Germany.
Moreover, the production figures for commercial vehicles speak a clear language: In the successful AS-Tronic transmission range alone, approximately 250,000 units have been supplied since 1997. And with the AS Tronic lite and the AS Tronic mid, ZF has continuously expanded the transmission family in the course of the last years. In addition to the manufacturers of heavy, mid-sized, and light trucks, fleet owners of coaches and construction machinery also trust in the fuel-saving, low-wear automatic shift characteristics of the AS Tronic.
Since 1978, more than 1.6 million users have been relying on the well-proven manual Ecosplit transmission which has been steadily improved. More than a quarter of a million Ecomat transmissions can be found meanwhile in city buses all over the world. In 2006, with the EcoLife transmission, ZF presented a new 6-speed automatic transmission which is optimally adapted to higher vehicle gross combination weights as well as the higher torques of modern city bus engines (Euro 5 standard); in addition to that, they are capable of transferring up to 2,000 Nm.
In the course of several development projects on the topic of hybrid drives, i.e. in cooperation with essential customers, ZF has clearly demonstrated that the automobile supplier Group is also well equipped to face up to the challenges of the driveline sector's future.
