Delta Cargo approves carriage of Envirotainer containers

Pharmaceutical companies transporting raw materials and products in Envirotainer’s temperature-controlled air cargo containers to and from the United States, domestically in the United States and worldwide now have access to a wider network and more flight frequencies following Delta Cargo’s decision to accept the company’s RKN t2 and RAP t2 containers on board its network, serving more than 300 cities in 56 countries.
Ben Darnell, Managing Director of Delta Cargo, said: “Delta Cargo’s acceptance of Envirotainer’s containers is just one more step we are taking to meet the varied needs of our customers. Highly sensitive products require a temperature-controlled environment and these containers are a proven tool for effectively handling these shipments.”
Delta’s decision to begin using the containers follows extensive trials carried out by its own engineers, working closely with Envirotainer’s cold chain management and research and development specialists at its headquarters in Lagga Marma, near Stockholm in Sweden.
Delta Cargo will use Envirotainer’s containers to ship such temperature sensitive commodities as pharmaceuticals and certain perishable food products.
Martin Peter, Vice President Sales at Envirotainer, said: “The decision of Delta Cargo to accept our RKN t2 and RAP t2 containers on board their aircraft is a welcome development, especially for the pharmaceutical companies that use our containers to maintain the integrity of products. It means they now have even more options in terms of destinations and capacity. We look forward to working with Delta as the airline further develops its cold chain capabilities.”
Delta Cargo is also taking the initial steps towards participating in Envirotainer’s QEP-CEP program. This has been developed in consultation with the pharmaceutical industry to define those service providers that were capable of using the Envirotainer solution to ensure the integrity of their temperature sensitive shipments.
