Brazil and South Korea, SIL 2008 Guest Countries
The organization of the International Logistics and
Material Handling Exhibition, which celebrates its 10th edition in 2008, has
confirmed that Brazil and South Korea will be the Guest Countries of the
Exhibition. Brazil is, nowadays, the fifth country with more volume of
population worldwide with 188 million inhabitants, and it also occupies the
fifth position by territory extension. On the other hand, South Korea, with
almost 50 million inhabitants, is one of the Asian countries with an income per
capita comparable to the Spanish inhabitants and it is one the fifteen biggest
economies of the planet.Brazil has unchecked itself as the MERCOSUR leader, the commercial block that belongs together with Argentina or Uruguay and that symbolizes a market of 225 million consumers. Therefore, Brazil has located itself in the tenth position within the strongest economies groups of the world and the first of Latin America. Furthermore, the country is outlined as one of the larger logistic powers due to the territory extension and due to the commercial relations with the neighbour countries. More than 15,700 kilometres of borders, which share with most of Latin American countries, as well as investments foreseen in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the Brazilian Government concerning to logistics infrastructures for the value of 30,100 million dollars that endorse its condition of worldwide economy benchmark. Nonetheless, Brazil is one of the G20 most important countries, which is the forum that consists of the 20 most powerful economies of the world.
In turn, South Korea is one of the Asian countries from the continent known as “The Tiger of Asia” due to the vertiginous development of its economy, which has become one of the leaders with the Gross Domestic Product of more than 787 billion dollars. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce of the Spanish government has located its markets as one of the best ones to do investments due to its strategic position and has placed its economy as one of the most dynamics of the world. In agreement with the Common Agricultural Policy of the Ministry, South Korea opens several chances aimed at the logistics sector in terms of infrastructures management and high technology sector, among others. It is a promising attempt for those companies that decide to invest in this country. This same Policy foresees from the 2007-2009 period more than 100 promotional activities, with a global budget of 2.4 million euros.
So, South Korea is confirming itself with the North Africa business core. The cargo airports enlargement from Incheon and those predicted in the port of Busan, which according to the country sources will be the biggest country of Asia, will locate the South Korean region as a logistics centre of the zone and will benefit from free trade agreements closed together with the European Union and the United States.
The presence of Brazil and South Korea in the 10th International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition will mean the development of new commercial links for Spain and will help to strengthen those that already exist. As in other editions, it is foreseen the presence of different authorities in representation of the guest countries that will be able to encourage and solidify the institutional relations had until today.
The Spanish presence in both countries
Brazil and South Korea are safe destinations in the travel
agendas of the Spanish companies with investments abroad. The Spanish Repsol YPF
has become the second oil company from Brazil, while BBVA and BSCH banks have
located themselves among the main banks of the country.
Meanwhile, in the last Spanish Business Meetings- South
Korea, which was held in Seoul last October, the presence of almost 30 companies
showed up the interest to promote the investments of the Asian country.
Telefònica, Iberdrola and Indra were three of the companies that confirmed its
intention to promote in the zone due to the proximity of countries as important
as Japan and China.
