Weekly ro-ro service between Amsterdam and Finland
At the beginning of 2008, UPM Seaways (parent company of UPM-Kymmene) began an improved weekly service between Amsterdam and Hamina in Finland. On Mondays, the ships sailing on this route unload and load at the Scandiaterminal, operated by VCK Logistics in the Suezhaven (Suez Port), which is part of the Port of Amsterdam.
Each of the ships currently plying this route has a capacity of 7,450 DWT and 1,625 lane meters. As a result, the total capacity has now doubled in comparison to 2007 and has become quite substantial. This has given UPM-Kymmene more leeway in transporting its own cargo and in serving other companies. The sailing schedule is: Hamina - Amsterdam – Tilbury – Lubeck/Rostock – Hamina.
The cargo shipped on this short-sea service concerns particularly forest products from Finland, such as cellulose and paper. From Amsterdam, VCK Logistics provides transport to the final destinations across Europe.
VCK Logistics is a multimodal logistics provider, which has been active in the Port of Amsterdam since 1915.
The Port of Amsterdam very much welcomes the addition of this service to a wide range of short-sea services sailing to and from Amsterdam.
