The Port of Goteborg (Gothenburg) has played a pioneering role in the history of onshore power supply for ships or 'cold ironing'. The Port has now been nominated for a prestigious EU Award. The nominated project is
called 'Shoreside electricity – dramatically reducing emissions from ships at berth by offering high voltage shore side electricity'.
The development is done in cooperation with Stora Enso and Cobelfret. The Port has contracted two wind power stations operated by the local energy provider for the onshore power supply.
The award is presented by The European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and Transport. The Port of Goteborg is one of four nominated candidates in the Demonstration and Dissemination category. In total, 386
projects was registered. An independent selection committee was appointed by the Commission to assess the 26 nominees. The award winners in each of the five categories will be announced on January 29, during the EU
Sustainable Energy Week. The Chairman of the Port, Sven Hulterstrom and the Environmental Manager, Asa Wilske will attend the ceremony.
