Minister Nicolais meets the government of the UAE
The ID Community was honored by the visit of Prof. Luigi Nicolais, the Italian Minister for
Reforms and Innovation in the Public Administration, in the ID WORLD International
Congress. Minister Nicolais spoke during the Citizen ID Forum on November 28 and
presented the projects that best illustrate the state-of-the-art infrastructure being
deployed in the public administration in Italy in order to better serve its citizens, including
the electronic national ID card and the Citizen Card. “We just introduced new technical
rules that specify the functionality of the electronic National ID card: not only will it be
used as an ID document but also as a credential that allows citizens to access the services
provided by the public administration,” the Minister said. “Furthermore, the price of the
Electronic Identity Card for the citizen has been reduced to 10 euro.”
Minister Nicolais symbolically handed over the Citizen ID Forum to the government of the
United Arab Emirates, represented by H.E. Darwish A. Al-Zarouni, Director General of the
Emirates Identity Authority, and Brig. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, General Director Central
Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, United Arab Emirates. The next edition of the Citizen ID
Forum will be organized by Wise Media on February 25-26 in Abu Dhabi with the patronage
of the Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheik Saif bin Zayed Al
Nahyan and with the endorsement of the European Commission represented at the
ceremony of November 28 by Cecilia Joanna Verkleij, Head of Sector at the European
Commission's Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security.
