The importance of the oil and gas to the Asia-Pacific region, which has been traditionally suffered from the shortage of the natural resources, has been dramatically increased nowadays. With this trend, Asian oil and gas and its related industry, such as petrochemical, plant construction, ship-building, IT and automation system and so on have been also developed in parallel with the expansion of the Asian oil and gas market.
With this circumstance, INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions Organisation Est. is co-organising the ‘Asian Oil and Gas Show 2008’, which will be the first international oil and gas industry exhibition to be hosted in Korea, with Korea Petroleum Association.
▲ Oil and Gas Industry Statistics of Korea
Korea is not an oil-producing country, and so it imports 100% of its needs for crude oil from overseas. The Korean economy has suffered seriously whenever an international oil crisis arises, resulting in a disruption in the oil supply and a sharp rise in oil prices.
In order to efficiently cope with such possible mishaps and to secure its petroleum requirements for a stable supply of crude oil, Korea has launched overseas petroleum exploration and development projects along with its domestic offshore exploration projects.
Korean overseas petroleum development projects were actively promoted after experiencing the negative impacts from the two worldwide oil crises during the 1970s. Ever since 1981, 33 Korean companies have participated in 152 overseas petroleum exploration and development projects in 45 countries as of end of 2005. Currently, a total of 72 overseas E&P projects in 28 countries are in progress.
Korean government has announced ‘the third overseas resource development scheme’ last year in bid to strengthen the infrastructure for the overseas resource development by increasing its budget of 10 trillion over the 10 years. Also for the skill attainment, it plans to invest 0.5 trillion over the 10 years through its budget assigned for supporting public bodies’ R&D department, and matching fund of private companies.
Perfect platform
It is expected that participating exhibitors will gain the opportunity to and from the Asian continent with a true global outlook for business to business environment. In addition to this, being the uppermost marine and ship-building technology possessing country in the world, Korea is regarded as the best place to host the ‘Asian Oil and Gas Show’ in the Asian-Pacific region.
