Carsten Jensen new head of DFDS Seaways

Today 21 April, DFDS has appointed Carsten Jensen (44) as new Manager of the Business Unit Passenger and thereby also as new head of DFDS Seaways. Carsten Jensen, who comes from a post as deputy director at DFDS Seaways, simultaneously takes up a position with DFDS’ Ex-ecutive Management.
DFDS’ CEO Niels Smedegaard had temporarily filled the post of Business Unit Manager of Passenger Shipping and thereby as head of DFDS Seaways, until a replacement could be ap-pointed. “I am very happy to be able to hand over the helm to Carsten Jensen, who brings some excellent ballast to the job. Partly through his place in the company’s management since 2005, partly due to his previous valuable experience from international management positions. Car-sten Jensen will provide DFDS Seaways with a sharp analyst and an experienced leader, who knows and loves the shipping company, its employees and customers. I have no doubts that he is the right person to ensure DFDS Seaways’ continued success and dynamism,” says Niels Smedegaard.
Carsten Jensen has an MSc in Economics and Business Administration. He has solid interna-tional experience, a.o. from SAS, which he moved to in 1995 and where he had management responsibilities with customer relations, marketing, price policy, sales and operations, including in Stockholm, before becoming German director for SAS in Frankfurt.
“I am greatly looking forward to making DFDS Seaways a stronger business and even better workplace in close co-operation with the Executive Management and the employees, ” says Carsten Jensen.
DFDS Seaways operates the passenger routes Copenhagen-Oslo, Esbjerg-Harwich, IJmuiden (Holland)-Newcastle and Bergen/Haugesund/Stavanger-Newcastle. DFDS Seaways transports around 2.2 million passengers per year on six ferry cruise ships.
The Executive Management of DFDS consists of Niels Smedegaard as President & CEO, Chris-tian Merrild as CFO, Executive Vice President Henrik Holck (HR), Executive Vice President Peder Gellert Pedersen (Business units Ro-Ro Shipping and Terminal Services), Executive Vice President Ole Sehested (Business Units Container Shipping and Trailer Services – and now Executive Vice President Carsten Jensen (Passenger Shipping).
