In April EVR (Estonian Railways) lifted 1.9m tons, down 53% year to year. According to the company, the results were the same in April 1996. Nearly 70% of the freight was oil and oil products. The 1.31m ton volume was down 41%.
In April, Estonian Railways received in 24 hours on an average 16.1 freight trains. That figure is equal to 2007 August and September.
The declining number of freight trains from border is due to renovating works in oil refineries in Russia and Belarus, according to Baltic Business News.
