Wartsila expands further in Norway

Wartsila Corporation opened yesterday its first office in Oslo, as part of the company's strategy to establish a greater presence in Norway and to be closer to the customers. Currently, Wartsila has operations in Rubbestadneset, Stord, Haugesund, Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund and Trondheim. During the past year, the company has set up the offices in Haugesund, Stavanger, Alesund and Bergen.
Wartsila in Norway has experienced strong growth in recent years, particularly in the offshore segment, a target area on which Wartsila's Oslo team will be heavily focused. The company's new office, located at Stenersgata 2, will also enable the shipping clients to be served even more efficiently.
"Being close to our clients is important in order for us to continuously provide excellent services. We have to be where the customers are," says Ove Wilhelmsen, General Sales Manager, Wartsila Ship Power.
Wilhelmsen also points out that this current expansion is being carried out with recruiting in mind. "Wartsila's workforce consists of highly skilled individuals, who work in a very international environment, and we are committed to finding the best talent. We hope to attract exceptional and capable employees to our office in Oslo," he adds.
Norway has now become a key area within Wartsila's global market, as the company has grown along with an increasing demand for its services. Today the company employs more than 850 in Norway, with the majority of its Norwegian operations based in Sunnhordland. In addition, Wartsila's Global Ship Power Technology is led by Norwegian Arne Birkeland, who also serves as Managing Director of Wartsila Norway.
"Wartsila is continuously working on developing new technology that will produce even more competitive and environmentally sound products for our customers. In this groundbreaking work Norway is well represented, and I feel it will especially benefit our Norwegian customers," says Arne Birkeland.
