POSIDONIA-2008
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) traditionally participates in the POSIDONIA exhibition, presenting its developments in ensuring safety at sea and environmental protection.
Protection of environment is one of the main goals of the RS activities. The RS Director-General N.A. Reshetov said, “Marine environment safety management issues are in the focus of all members of the maritime industry. The best safety guarantee is a ship, designed and constructed in compliance with international standards provided the crew and the shipping company meet all the requirements”.
Marine environment safety issues become of the utmost importance due to the intensification of navigation in the Arctic connected mainly with the shelf development of the Arctic seas. RS is involved in the developments enabling to enhance environment safety standards of navigation. Having a century long experience in survey of Arctic ships and performing regular researches, RS develops rules for design, construction, operation, repair, modernization of ships and offshore facilities for the Arctic.
The RS Rules are aimed at improving standards of ecological safety. The Rules take into account both technical features and operation of ship and equipment and methods to minimize the role of human factor being often the reason for marine pollution. The RS safety requirements include scientifically based risk assessment and risk management procedures considering human factor as well.
