MbPT sets new record

  05.06.2008

Mumbai Port has registered a new single-day handling record when 7,346 tonnes of raw sugar were loaded on to the vessel m.v. Katina at 12A Indira Dock on May 29.
It thus surpassed the previous record of 6,867 tonnes, which had been loaded on to m.v. F. Jahan on February 11 this year at 21 Indira Dock.
The vessel, under the agency of POL India Agency Ltd, loaded the commodity in bulk for Chittagong port in Bangladesh. The exporter was Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Ltd and J. M. Baxi and Sons the cargo agent.
According to an MbPT release, the record handling was achieved with meticulous planning and excellent coordination between the Port authorities and the agent.
Mumbai Port has emerged as the preferred facility of sugar manufacturers and exporters as it offers excellent storage facilities and higher productivity, resulting in reduced overall handling costs, the release highlights.
The Port authorities have assured exporters of continued efficient service and still higher levels of performance, the release underscores, Exim News Service reported.
