cargo counts entrusts Lufthansa Cargo

  09.06.2008

Hattersheim: Following the signing of a Total Cargo Management agreement with Italian carrier AirOne, cargo counts has transferred responsibility for its sales and handling services in America and Italy to its parent company Lufthansa Cargo (LCAG) after putting the business out to tender.
AirOne will serve the Milan-Boston route with Airbus A330-200s five times a week from 14 June and the Milan-Chicago route six times a week from 21 June. Cargo capacity in each direction will be about 15 tonnes per flight. Thanks to fast and straightforward cooperation between cargo counts and LCAG, all flights are now available for booking in Lufthansa Cargo’s  systems.
“Lufthansa Cargo’s professional, strategic approach, its excellent positioning in the relevant markets and its attested market quality made it an obvious choice as a preferred partner,” said Michael Störmer, Director Commercial at cargo counts, explaining the decision in favour of the parent company. “We had several very well established general agents to choose from. But we knew that by collaborating with LCAG we would very quickly achieve a win-win-win situation for all three partners involved, and that was what ultimately sealed our decision. We will now be able to offer an outstanding product in the Italian and US markets that will provide ideal connections between business centres in Northern Italy, the East Coast of America and the Midwest.”
“With AirOne’s direct service to the US and JADE’s existing services to Asia, Lufthansa Cargo is bolstering its position in Italy’s air cargo market and thus pursuing its strategy of offering direct flights from key European markets to core air cargo markets,” commented Thilo Schäfer, Director Italy & Malta.
“We have a number of customers in the US who handle regular business with Italy and urgently need reliable direct services. The AirOne flights to Milan will now enable us to meet this need and further strengthen our position as a global network provider of air cargo services,” explained Christian Haug, Director Sales & Handling USA Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and Michael Nicholson, Director Sales & Handling USA Midwest and Canada.
