Record growth for ID WORLD 2007

  03.07.2008

ID WORLD consolidates its position as the world’s most comprehensive summit on automatic identification: the
ID WORLD Exhibition grows in size by over 50 percent, while the CEOs of the industry meet top level end-users of the public and private sectors at the ID WORLD International Congress Milan, December 11, 2007
Wise Media is proud to announce the outstanding success of ID WORLD 2007, the sixth
global summit on automatic identification. More than 2,419 individual visitors (up 34
percent over last year) attended the exhibition and 112 exhibitors (up 56 percent over last
year) showcased their state-of-the-art products and technologies.
The sixth annual summit on automatic identification
Endorsed by the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Interior and the Presidency of
the Italian Council of Ministers, the ID WORLD International Congress is the most
comprehensive event on the evolving world of RFID, biometrics, smart cards, identity
management and identification technologies in general. It is the only international event
that looks at the world of automatic identification as a whole, rather than focusing on a
specific technology or vertical market sector. Held in Milan from November 26 to 28, the
sixth ID WORLD International Congress boasts an incredibly successful track record.
Founded as a round table on the topic of automatic identification in 2002, today the annual
event attracts the most important players of the international community.
112 exhibitors, 2419 individual exhibition visitors
With 112 exhibitors (increase of 56%) dedicated to automatic identification, ID WORLD is
one of the few global events where visitors can find the full range of advanced automatic ID
technologies, including RFID, biometrics, smart cards, AIDC – data capture. With 2419
visitors (increase of 34%), the two-day ID WORLD 2007 Exhibition proved to be an ideal
meeting place for vendors looking to establish high level business contacts and end users
and system integrators looking for the right auto ID technologies and applications.
Highlights of the conference
502 high-caliber conference attendees (up 2 percent over last year) participated in ID
WORLD, which featured, in all, sixteen conferences. The plenary sessions of ID WORLD 2007
were inaugurated by a panel of CEOs that comprised contributions from four highly
regarded executives of the ID Revolution community: Richard Bravman (Intelleflex - Former
Symbol), James W. Ziglar (Cross Match Technologies), Remy de Tonnac (Inside Contactless)
and Roberto Tunioli (Datalogic). The breadth of applications of state-of-the-art
identification technologies were illustrated by Julie England (VP & General Manager, Texas Instruments Rfid Systems), Philip Gerskovich (SVP, Strategy & Corporate Development,
Zebra), Dr. Mohamed Lazzouni (CTO, L-1 Identity Solutions) and Dr. Frank Paul (HD Unit
"Large-scale IT systems" - DG JFS, Euro pean Commission).
More than 140 speakers have actively contributed to this year’s ID WORLD conference,
including Dr. Frank Paul (DG JFS, European Commission), John Wagner (US Customs and
Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security), Sebastián Muriel (Red.es Ministry of
Industry, Tourism and Commerce), Ian Neill (eBorders Programme, UK Home Office), Gert
Versluis (Dutch Ministry of Justice), Brig. Salem Ahmed Moeen (National Database and
Registration Authority Pakistan NADRA), Sean Detloff (Starbucks Coffee Company), Abbas
Khodaverdi (Scientific Green Iran), Stefano Dolci (SEA Milan Airports), Rob Holdorp
(Amsterdam Airport Schiphol), Dr. Christoph Seidelmann (International Container Security
Organization, Sybren Tuinstra (TNT Express), Rik Verhaegen (Antwerp Port Authority), Elie
Simon (Tagsys), Philip Gerskovich (Zebra Technologies) and many more internationally
renowned experts and key players in the automatic ID industry.
Minister Nicolais meets the government of the UAE
The ID Community was honored by the visit of Prof. Luigi Nicolais, the Italian Minister for
Reforms and Innovation in the Public Administration, in the ID WORLD International
Congress. Minister Nicolais spoke during the Citizen ID Forum on November 28 and
presented the projects that best illustrate the state-of-the-art infrastructure being
deployed in the public administration in Italy in order to better serve its citizens, including
the electronic national ID card and the Citizen Card. “We just introduced new technical
rules that specify the functionality of the electronic National ID card: not only will it be
used as an ID document but also as a credential that allows citizens to access the services
provided by the public administration,” the Minister said. “Furthermore, the price of the
Electronic Identity Card for the citizen has been reduced to 10 euro.”
Minister Nicolais symbolically handed over the Citizen ID Forum to the government of the
United Arab Emirates, represented by H.E. Darwish A. Al-Zarouni, Director General of the
Emirates Identity Authority, and Brig. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, General Director Central
Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, United Arab Emirates. The next edition of the Citizen ID
Forum will be organized by Wise Media on February 25-26 in Abu Dhabi with the patronage
of the Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheik Saif bin Zayed Al
Nahyan and with the endorsement of the European Commission represented at the
ceremony of November 28 by Cecilia Joanna Verkleij, Head of Sector at the European
Commission's Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security.
