New MODU to the RS Class

The first of the two semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling units ordered by GAZFLOT has been laid down to the RS class at Vyborg Shipyard.  The second unit is to be laid down in autumn 2008. A semi-submersible unit of the type is a self-propelled twin-hull construction with two pontoons and six stabilising columns supporting the topside structures.
The new units are being built under regulations and standards of the Russian Federation. Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS)  performs classification of mobile offshore drilling units (MODU) on the basis of Regulation on Classification of Ships and Fixed Offshore Platforms, approved by the RF Ministry of Transport. Basing upon RF Government decree, RS performs survey of fixed offshore platforms (FOP) of various types and manufacture of equipment, materials and products for MODU and FOP.
RS actively participates in development of offshore oil and gas fields being engaged at every stage of such projects. The services rendered include organisation and execution of quality control, industrial safety expertise, certification within the GOST R system, review of project and working design documentation according to the regulatory technical documents, accepted for the project and other services essential for successful completion of a project. All the activities are undertaken by experienced staff in compliance with high quality standards, that guarantees safety at sea and protection of environment.
