Container terminal 4 completed

  16.09.2008

Over 1,000 guests from politics and economics accepted the invitation to the official inauguration of Europe's largest port construction project on 12 September. Container terminal 4 (CT 4) in Bremerhaven is almost 1,700 metres long and provides 90 hectares of work and storage space, thus expanding to a total length of almost five kilometres. 4.9 million standard containers (TEU) were handled in Bremerhaven in 2007, and by 2009, this is set to be around six million. The construction of the new terminal was completed 14 months earlier than planned. Mayor Jens Bohrnsen called the completion of CT4 a "historic day in Bremen's history", adding that "we play in the Champions League of ports."
