In October 2008 altogether 32 863 motor vehicles were newly registered that is 3.1% more than in October 2007. According to Statistics Austria, the number of new registrations of passenger cars increased by 4.0%; the development on the commercial vehicle market was slightly decreasing (lorries -0.4%) while the number of registered articulated lorries increased by 28.5%, that of tractors for agricultural and forestry rose by 7.7%. The market for two-wheelers showed different tendencies: the new registrations of only lightweight motorcycles (+23.5%) could raise considerably, motorcycles (-31.8%) and scooters (-4.7%) faced extensive decreases.
For the period January till October 2008, new registrations of motor vehicles represented a total of 360 014, which is about 1.4% above the previous year’s period-result. The number of passenger cars slightly increased by 0.6% to 258 149 units. Whilst new registrations of petrol-driven vehicles could rise by 10 394 (9.9%), those of diesel-driven cars showed decreases (-9 286 units or -6.2%). Lorries (+4.5%) as well as tractors for agricultural and forestry use (+3.5%) showed increases.
