On Saturday 22 November 2008 Odense Steel Shipyard named its latest newbuilding, a 7,000 TEU container ship, for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group.
Mrs Donatienne van Boxmeer, married to Mr Jean-Francois van Boxmeer, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO, Heineken N.V., honoured A.P. Moller – Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding MARIT MÆRSK.
MARIT MÆRSK is the fifth ship in a series of six container ships. The ship is designed and built to meet the highest demands for safe, precise, environmentally friendly and economic transportation of goods all over the globe. Among other things, a waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced.
MARIT MÆRSK is a highly automated ship thoroughly monitored by advanced computer systems to ensure an optimal and efficient operation.
To minimize the fuel consumption and thereby CO2 emissions the 12-cylinder Wärtsilä RT-flex diesel engine has been optimised for a more efficient and economical service speed. The propulsion machinery on MARIT MÆRSK develops 84,000 BHP.
MARIT MÆRSK will after delivery enter Maersk Line's worldwide liner service.
MARIT MÆRSK is registered in Skovshoved and will be commanded by Captain Benny Otto Rasmussen with Torben Dam Hjortshøj as Chief Engineer.
