MSC to assign larger ships
MSC is understood to assign 4,000+ teu ships on its Europe-WCSA service in anticipation to the Chile fruit export season, Alphaliner reported. It is currently ensured with eight ships of 2,500-3,500 teu. MSC has been serving directly the WCSA-Europe trade since May 2008, when it organized this new service to replace services by transhipment over Freeport (See related news).This service also caters en route to the US market through transhipment at Freeport (Bahamas MSC hub). The US-bound capacity freed up at Freeport-Europe freed up capacity by boxes transhipped from the Caribbean, Central America and NCSA sectors. Besides, MSC operates two other WCSA-Freeport relay services.
