Readers of Cargo News Asia, a leading shipping, supply chain and cargo transport newspaper, have voted Singapore Airlines Cargo as the "Best Green Service Provider – Airline" in its annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards survey.
SIA Cargo's Corporate Safety, Security and Quality Division, which oversees the Airline's Environment Task Force, reiterated it's long-term commitment in the sustainable development of the air transportation and related businesses. The Company has taken a comprehensive approach in addressing all key areas of environmental concern linked to operations and the work environment, both in the ground and in the air. Being a global citizen, the Company recognises its responsibility goes beyond compliance with laws and regulations, but to strive for environmental excellence.
Apart from the Company's partnership with Wildlife Reserves Singapore to promote the conservation of endangered species, it is heartening to know that several of the initiatives adopted by the Company, including the use of ground power units, non-motorised equipment, more effective and efficient use of flight profiles and participation in IATA's E-Freight programme are coming to fruition.
This year's awards presentation was held in Hong Kong on 22 April 2009. Mr Patrick Ee, General Manager for Hong Kong & Macau received the award on behalf of the Airline.
