Japan unveils fastest E5 series train

  01.07.2009

East Japan Railway has unveiled its fastest ever E5 series train, capable of reaching speeds of 320km/h. The train is scheduled to run on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line once it is complete in 2011 and will allow passengers to reach Shin-Aomori from Tokyo in just over three hours.
The train is being developed using Fastech 360 experimental trainsets and features including the 15m 'arrow-line' nose to minimise noise and micro-pressure waves as the train enters tunnels.
The trains will also have bogie shrouds, smooth inter-car fairings, a low-noise pantograph, body tilting and full active suspension on all cars.
The train will be tested for performance and endurance tests before entering service on the high-speed line extension from Hachinohe to Shin-Aomori, Railway-Technology reported.
