US Airways chooses Swift Air and Globe Air Cargo as GSA partners

US Airways has awarded contracts for air cargo GSSA in Belgium and the Netherlands to European Cargo Services (ECS).
In Belgium, the airline is now represented by Swift Air while Globe Air Cargo has taken
over as US Airways’ GSA representative in the Netherlands. Swift and Globe, wholly-owned
companies within the ECS group, took over the new contracts with effect from July 1st 2009.
US Airways operates daily Boeing 757 flights from Brussels and Amsterdam to its
International Gateway in Philadelphia, providing fast and reliable access to its entire
North American network. In 2008, US Airways was ranked America’s number one on-time
airline among the ‘big six’ hub and spoke carriers, according to the US Department of
US Airways and its subsidiaries operate more than 3,200 flights a day and serve over 200
destinations in the US, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Swift Air and Globe Air Cargo won the contracts after a competitive tender process and
expect to generate up to 500 tonnes of cargo per annum for US Airways from each country.
Guy Tordjman, President of ECS, said: “These are important contracts wins for us and
provide an opportunity to market US Airways’ exceptional network across North America to
freight forwarders throughout Belgium and the Netherlands. The airline’s route system,
frequency of flights and on-time performance make US Airways a highly desirable airline
for agents transporting cargo from Europe to North America.”
Jimmy Speas, Director Cargo Sales of US Airways, said: “The ECS Group’s comprehensive
coverage of the Belgium and Netherlands region will serve to extend the presence and scope
of US Airways with the freight forwarders. US Airways and ECS provide the customers with a
quality product and high standards of service which are vital at all times but especially
in this challenging environment.”
