Improvements for the Rotterdam-Genoa freight corridor

A European Economic Interest Group (EEIG) has been established by rail infrastructure managers with the aim of improving rail freight along the Rotterdam-Mannheim-Basel-Genoa freight corridor. The members, namely Prorail, DB Netz, BLS Infrastruktur, SBB Infrastrucktur and RFI have agreed to develop a 'One Stop Shop' allowing operators to negotiate their train paths with a single infrastructure manager, thus reducing request processing time by 30% to around 6.4 days. According to Logistics Finland, as part of a wider programme, trains can be observed in real time along the corridor by means of a new system called Europtirails. It is hoped that the improvement scheme could be adopted by other freight corridors.
