Global Strategy Summit line-up announced

The line-up for the Global Strategy Summit – co-located at World Routes in Beijing on 14th-15th September 2009 - has been announced. With focused panel discussions instead of formal presentations, the ICAO/World Bank/Routes Global Strategy Summit (formerly the Routes Leaders Forum) is a unique event where airline and airport Chairmen and CEOs come together in an informal setting to discuss the key issues currently affecting the air transport industry.
Discussion panels will debate how the industry can collectively meet the challenges of today while creating a climate for sustainable expansion and development in the decades to come. In participating, the unique influential audience recruited by invitation, will directly influence the environment in which the route planners and airport marketers attending Routes can fulfil their mission.
“First-time delegates for the GSS often ask for the content of the speeches,” said Mike Berman, Vice President Commercial, RDG, “and that’s exactly what we cannot tell them. There are no formal presentations. Instead we have focused panel discussions to ensure that the proceedings are as relevant as possible on the day. This makes for vibrant and stimulating interchange between industry leaders. The aim is not to discuss the past, but to try and explore the way forward. The GSS is a must for those planning for the future in a turbulent environment.”
This year’s sessions are scheduled under the umbrella titles of: Civil Aviation Today, Can Global Air Transport Resume Growth?, Technology to Transform our Industry, Safety and Security Challenges, Environmental Challenges, The Airline/ANSP/Airport Partner – Future Trends, Air Transport & Tourism – Catalyst for Future Development, and Developing Markets of the Future.
Current attendance figures show that World Routes 2009 is the arena in which much of the restructuring of air services will take place, and the co-located Global Strategy Summit will be its nerve centre and the best place to make sense of the industry trends that are emerging. This year’s summit in Beijing is jointly sponsored by The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the World Bank and Routes and retains a similar format to previous years, although the name has changed to more accurately reflect its importance in the route development calendar.
At the time of distribution speakers include Vijay Poonoosamy, Etihad Airways; John Holland-Kaye, BAA Limited; Fariba Alamdari, Boeing Commercial Airplanes; Angela Gittens, ACI World; Laurent Rouaud, Airbus; Lee Lipton, Southwest Airlines; Andrew Herdman, AAPA; Folasade Odutola, ICAO; Charles Schlumberger, The World Bank; Callum Thomas, MMU; Panagiotis Karamanos, Athens International Airport; Greg Duffell, PATA and Bill De Cota, Port Authority of NY & NJ.
