According to Nedyalka Raikova, director of Exploitation and Marketing in Bulgarian Railways (BDZ), the number of passengers in BDZ decreased by 8-10% over the downturn.
The largest decline has been recorded in the biggest Bulgarian cities like Sofia, Raikova said. - Certain social circles that used BDZ transport before, like construction workers, are not traveling to Sofia now because they lost their job - she explained in an interview for Focus News Agency.
However, also some positive factors can be noticed. Recently BDZ had to increase the number of trains on the summer route Sofia – Plovdiv – Burgas and back.
