AAT posts 16% fall in tonnage throughput

Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced its tonnage throughput for August 2009 was 43,232 tonnes, down 16% compared with the same month last year.
Export cargo registered 28,945 tonnes, a decline by 18% against same period last year. Import cargo volume for August was 13,815 tonnes, recording a decrease of 13% from last year. Trans-shipment cargo volume was 472 tonnes; representing a year-on-year growth of 27%.
The cumulative tonnage throughput from January to August 2009 was 304,543 tonnes, representing a year-on-year decrease of 26.1%. Accumulated export cargo volume was 197,166 tonnes; down 29.1% while import cargo volume was 104,017 tonnes, recording a decrease of 20.7%. The total trans-shipment volume up to August 2009 was 3,360 tonnes, up 16.7% against same period last year.
AAT General Manager, Corporate Development, Mr. Nelson Lee said, "August performance shows further improvement, however, the market is possibly still in the early stage of stabilisation."
