FIFA World Cup 2010 with technology by ZF

ZF will equip more than 700 city buses and coaches for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa with Ecomat and AS Tronic transmissions. The economical driveline technology has convinced the South African public transportation services.
The World Cup hosts aim at having both an effective and environmentally friendly transportation system which offers the visitors of the World Cup smooth mobility. A total of 713 buses, types Scania KIB 270, KIA 310, Mercedes-Benz InterCitybus O 500 RSD 2436, and MAN Lion’s Explorer HB4 will have ZF technology
on board and will be supplied to South Africa by mid-2010.

Far-sighted planning
143 buses by the manufacturer Scania, equipped with ZF Ecomat transmissions, have already been put into service in the metropolis of Johannesburg. In the first half of 2010, another 570 buses will be
taken into operation at the eight other FIFA venues in South Africa. After the World Cup, the Autopax Passenger Services transportation company will take over the modern buses to use them in "City-to-City" traffic in the whole of South Africa. This is where the economical ZF transmissions can fully play their strength.
In 460 coaches and intercity buses by Mercedes-Benz, the ZF Ecomat automatic transmission will ensure comfortable and at the same time economical propulsion. The transmission has been
designed specifically for frequent starting and stopping, which is typical for city bus operation.
The other 100 coaches by MAN, which will be transferred to the Autopax fleet after the FIFA World Cup, are equipped with ZF's AS Tronic automatic transmission and clutch systems. With its 12 automatic speeds, the transmission ensures particularly economical driving at all times: It keeps the engine in the optimal
speed range and excludes fuel-intensive operating errors.
Additionally to ZF driveline technology, all 700 buses are also equiped with ZF Sachs dampers.
