Three years after beginning the activities in Iasi, the leading international automotive supplier Continental opened the new office building for the employees of the Automotive Group R&D Center in Romania. The foundation stone of the building with a floor space of about 9,000 m² was laid on November 27, 2008. The investment reached approximately 20 million euros. The development center hosts research and engineering know-how for all three Automotive Group Divisions, Chassis & Safety, Powertrain, and Interior. Development activities range from electronic brake systems and chassis components to hybrid electric drives and body and security as well as infotainment.
Dr. Christian von Albrichsfeld, head of Continental Automotive R&D Romania, declared during the official opening ceremony: "We are glad that, despite a challenging economic environment, we were able to finish this project successfully and we are proud to officially open the new Continental building for our colleagues in Iasi.” Michael Kiener, director of the R&D Center in Iasi added: "The logo on the new building symbolically enhances the presence of Continental in the city for its employees and for every citizen in the town." Representatives of the City Hall, prefecture and universities were present, in addition to Karlheinz Haupt, Senior Vice President Systems & Technology Automotive, and Aurel Stanciu, Financial Manager, and other collaborators. At the Continental R&D Center in Iasi are working currently around 450 employees.
