Wilhelmsen Ships Service has been awarded a contract to act as agents to the Boskalis/Van Oord group for the Combinatie Kustvoorne project at Rotterdam. The project, which involve raising the dunes and beaches of Rockanje and Oostvoorne, will be undertaken in 11 weeks.
"We are very pleased to be part of this important project particularly as we are making this valuable contribution to defending the area from global warming " comments the Netherlands General Manager of Wilhelmsen Ships Service Hans Mout."
Wilhelmsen, the world's leading maritime service network, will supply the administration services of the repeated port calls to Rotterdam that will be made by the two vessels involved in the project, Barent Zanen (Boskalis) and Geopotes 15 (Van Oord). Both vessels will call within Rotterdam's breakwaters three to four times a day, around the clock, and will be connected to a pipeline from the areas to be heightened. The sand will be loaded at open sea. Wilhelmsen Ships Service will report each call to the authorities and handle harbour dues payments. The company will also provide husbandry items where required.
Hans Mout adds "The Rotterdam area is strategically a very significant area of operation for our company, so we welcome the opportunity to showcase the skills of our ships agency services here".
Wilhelmsen Ships Service supplies Unitor marine products, technical services, ships agency services and maritime logistics.
