APL expands its e-commerce offerings

Container shipping line, APL, today announced it has joined the INTTRA e-commerce portal.
INTTRA works with more than 30 leading ocean carriers and shippers to streamline and standardise processes such as bookings, bills of lading and invoicing. More than 300,000 container orders are initiated via INTTRA each week, representing in excess of 10% of global liner shipping trade.
“Joining INTTRA enables APL to meet market demand for proven e-commerce solutions that streamline processes, optimise freight flows and manage costs, said APL President, Eng Aik Meng.
The INTTRA partnership complements APL’s existing relationship with the GTNexus platform. APL is a founding member of GTNexus, which has more than 40,000 registered users. The value of transportation spending managed on the portal exceeded US$10 billion in 2009.
A full-scale electronic interface between INTTRA and APL is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
