Germany owns the largest share of the world's containership fleet

Germany still commands the largest share of the world's containership fleet despite being the largest group of sellers in the market.
"This is due to the continued delivery of new ships to German owners with some German owners also still active in the resale market. Japan's, Denmark's and Taiwan's shares dropped during the period," said Alphaliner.
On the other hand, Greece increased its share from 5.9 per cent in January 2009 to 6.4 per cent currently. China's share also rose from 5.3 per cent to 5.6 per cent during the same period.
A few other countries increased their shares significantly during this period, including the UK fleet increasing from 208,000 TEU to 299,000 TEU; Hong Kong's fleet increased from 234,000 TEU to 294,000 TEU; Canada's fleet grew from 160,000 TEU to 254,000 TEU; Israel's fleet rose from 124,000 TEU to 164,000 TEU; and Turkey's fleet expanded from 57,000 TEU to 80,000 TEU.
