ShipServ and Germanischer Lloyd plug in to German shipping market

  09.09.2010

ShipServ, a marine and offshore e-commerce trading platform, today announced at SMM 2010 that it is expanding its service to German shipowners through co-operation with software house GL Maritime Software, a company statement said.
The software provider has agreed to develop a ‘plug-in’ which can connect its clients’ maintenance and purchasing systems onboard ship direct to the hundreds of suppliers on ShipServ TradeNet.
ShipServ’s Germany-based customers already include AJ ShipManagement, Alpha Ship Management, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Deutschland), Carsten Rehder, ER Schiffahrt, Reederei F. Laeisz, Shipcare Management and trans Mar-Supply
Paul Ostergaard, Founder & CEO of ShipServ said: “We are excited that GL Maritime Software is making it easier for their clients connect to the TradeNet community. Although ShipServ has a strong track record in Germany, we’ve seen even more interest in ShipServ in the last year or so – indication that more and more German owners are looking to save on their procurement costs and improve their business processes.”
GL Maritime Software will integrate ShipServ TradeNet into its GL ShipManager shipboard system.
Dr Torsten Büssow GL’s head of Maritime Software, said: “As an innovation driver for the industry GL Maritime Software values this kind of co-operation with other strong maritime technology providers, to bring the best benefit to our joint client base.”
Mr Ostergaard added: “Having clients being able to connect directly via their GL software will really open up our ability to deliver value to more ship owners, and reduce the time it takes for them to get onboard. It will also help our supplier members too by deepening the pool of ships available and bringing them new customer opportunities.”
TradeNet is the world’s leading maritime trading platform, helping the buyers and sellers of ship supplies to reduce the costs associated with doing business together. Over 150 ship owners, managers, offshore operators and yards use TradeNet to manage the purchasing for close to 5,000 vessels & rigs. In 2010 ShipServ expects to handle more than 5,000,000 transactions.
