Maersk Line’s Chennai Express (CHX) service has made its first voyage and called at the Chennai Container Terminal (CCT).
E R Canberra berthed at CCT at 0700 hours on September 27. It began its voyage at Shanghai on September 13, will now proceed to Visakhapatnam and continue its return voyage thereafter.
Maersk Line commemorated the first voyage of the vessel by felicitating the Master of the vessel, Capt. Vedran Pavic, and also had special tokens for the Chennai and Visakhapatnam Port Trusts and the respective Customs divisions on this special occasion.
The container shipping giant also plans to felicitate customers providing maximum support on this first-ever voyage of the Chennai Express.
Maersk Line had earlier announced the launch of its new Far East-Chennai weekly service to be known as CHX.The port rotation for this new weekly service is Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Klang, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Tanjung Pelepas, Shanghai.
Four vessels of around 2,900-TEU capacity each are deployed on this service.
The service connects two of the fastest growing regions (India and China) and underlines the shipping giant’s commitment to South and East India with this best-in-class product, directly covering East China, South China and South-East Asia.
The service also connects North China, Korea and Japan at Tanjung Pelepas.
CHX’s transit time ex-Shanghai to Chennai is 13 days. Thus it provides some of the best transit times in the market.
