Premier Wen Jiabao visits COSCO's terminal in Piraeus


Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who was on a three-day official visit to Greece, along with Prime Minister of Greece, George A. Papandreou, visited COSCO's container terminal project in Piraeus ("PCT").
During the visit, Captain Wei Jiafu, President & CEO of COSCO Group, briefed Premier Wen and Prime Minister Papandreou the developments of the PCT project. In his speech at the site of PCT, Premier Wen gave appraisals towards COSCO's investment and operations of PCT, saying that he wishes that the Port of Piraeus would become "a shining pearl in the Mediterranean sea" and better port in the region. Prime Minister Papandreou said in a subsequent speech that COSCO's container terminal investment will continue to play a critical role in developing local economy and shipping industry.
At the end of the visit, Premier Wen and Prime Minister Papandreou joined a photo session held at the PCT terminal site with the crew of M.V. COSCO Taicang, a 10,000 TEU container ship berthing at the PCT terminal. The vessel was built by COSCO's joint venture shipyard in Nantong and is owned and operated by COSCO Container Lines Ltd.
The visit by the two premiers were accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Greece Luo Linquan, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Chinese Minster of Commerce Chen Deming, and other Chinese and Greek ministers.
