OWL (Ocean World Lines) has opened an air freight office and warehouse near London Heathrow Airport to support its expanding inbound and outbound air cargo services between the Far East, the US, Australia, the Mideast and Europe.
The new 10,0000 square foot office and warehouse, 10 minutes' drive from Heathrow, offers full air freight services, including cargo pick-up and consolidation, trucking, warehousing, cargo packing and crating, cargo insurance, cargo de-consolidation and distribution.
The OWL Air UK staff is Department for Transport security certified and the facility is equipped with x-ray machinery for on-the-spot cargo scanning to expedite shipping.
Heading the new office is general manager Paula Bellamy, with 23 years in the industry, including six years with OWL in sales, warehouse operations, and management.
"We opened OWL Air UK with a very knowledgeable team who has a huge amount of airfreight experience," said Ms Bellamy.
"With the rapid growth in airfreight, OWL is investing heavily in opening offices around the world and the location in London is key to meeting our clients' shipping and security needs. We have on-site warehousing near the terminal so we can receive cargo close to the cut-off time for tight departures," she said.
OWL Air UK handles all types of FAK (freight all kinds) cargo, including regular moves for the film production industry. "We carry cargo worldwide for all types of touring companies, including symphony orchestras, film and video production crews, dance troupes, rock bands, opera, choruses, theatre productions, circuses and museum exhibits. For these shipments, we use an ATA Carnet, or "merchandise passport", to clear foreign and US customs without paying duties or taxes on instruments and equipment, as well as freight," said Ms Bellamy.
OWL's new air service is supported by its OWL360 visibility platform which provides comprehensive details of all freight moves in one system. "With OWL360, our customers have greater visibility into their supply chain in a single location, providing instant access to their shipping information, and the ability to track, measure and compare the performance of all modes of transportation, including ocean, air, rail, and truck," she said.
