AUA can no longer refuel planes in Iran

Austrian Airlines (AUA) can no longer refuel its planes in Teheran, Iran as of yesterday and so will begin three Vienna-Teheran-Vienna flights rather than five weekly at least until 8 May, according to Austrian Times.
It made the announcement yesterday. Beginning today, weekly round-trip flights will occur on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There will be direct flights from Vienna to Teheran lasting about four hours and 20 minutes, but return flights will stop in Baku, Azerbaijan to refuel.
The Iranian government has decided not to refuel the planes of all European airlines following European airports’ refusal to refuel Iranian planes as part of sanctions against Iran for its nuclear programme.
An AUA spokesman said the airline had considered using planes larger than the Airbus-320 it has been using on the Vienna-Teheran route to obviate the need to refuel in Baku but had decided not to since it needed to use the larger planes on its long-distance routes.
