AAT July volume off 2pc to 60,088 tonnes

Hong Kong's second largest airport ground handler, Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), has posted a two per cent year-on-year decline in July air cargo throughput to 60,088 tonnes, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Export cargo registered 40,598 tonnes, a drop of five per cent year on year. Import cargo volume for July was 17,716 tonnes, down two per cent. Transshipment cargo volume soared 342 per cent to 1,774 tonnes.
Cumulative export tonnage from January to July was 273,561 tonnes, a fall of one per cent. Total import tonnage for first seven months was 120,806 tonnes, representing seven per cent year on year growth. Transshipment cargo was up to 169 per cent to 7,491 tonnes from the beginning of the year.
Said AAT corporate development chief Kenneth Yeung: "It may be prudent to watch the US and European economy for its ripple effect on Asian markets in the coming months."
