Continental, United to merge freight operations

The cargo divisions of America's Continental and United airlines are to merge their operations under the United Cargo name, with the combined fleet deploying 159 wide body aircraft from 10 hubs to 378 destinations.
The move is the result of the merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines last October 2010, reported London's International Freighting Weekly, which added that next year two will be run under United Cargo 360 brand as one carrier.
According to United Cargo president Robbie Anderson, United Cargo 360 system is on track to go live in the second quarter of 2012.
Once integration is final, customers will have access to a single air waybill number stock, a fully integrated product line and a single contact centre call number.
The latest milestone achieved in the integration is the combination of shipping services for high value goods and articles of extraordinary value under the brand UASecure.
UASecure offers secure chain of custody, continuous monitoring and secure storage facilities in more than 80 locations worldwide. Continental and United express and general freight products have been aligned under the brands EXP and GEN as of June.
United Cargo is scheduled to begin operating out of the company's new hub at O'Hare in January.
