China Southern launches Chongqing, Shanghai, Amsterdam cargo flights

A new China Southern Airline cargo flight, number CZ479, recently flew from Amsterdam to Chongqing, marking the launch of Chongqing-Shanghai-Amsterdam cargo flights.
This is China Southern's first scheduled international cargo service from Chongqing and its first step in carrying out the strategic cooperation agreement signed with the Chongqing government. The service is said to stimulate faster development of Chongqing's electronic and hi-tech industry, said Xinhua.
The service uses the world's most advanced 777-200 freighter, offering two flights per week, taking off every Thursday and Saturday from Chongqing.
Cargo can also go through China Southern's extensive network at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport to Chicago and Los Angeles.
On the other hand, China Southern will let its local joint venture carrier, the Chongqing Airlines, manage customer relations in the region.
China Southern and the world's largest laptop manufacturer HP have confirmed intent for cooperation. HP will give priority to China Southern in choosing carriers. With the support of Chongqing and Shanghai's airport customs, HP's cargo can be transshipped as early as the next day for Chicago after their arrival at Shanghai's Pudong airport.
He Zongkai, China Southern's deputy general manager and president of Chongqing Airlines, said the service is China Southern's contribution to the city's aim of becoming an air hub and developing hi-tech industry.
Deputy chief of the Secretariat of the Chongqing government Ai Yang said the service offers new opportunities for the cities' economic development.
