Asia airlines' freight slides 5.8pc

Airlines in Asia saw a decline in freight traffic in August of 5.8 per cent causing carriers to hold back freight capacity because of faltering economies in Europe and the US, said the Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines (AAPA), according to the Shipping Gazette.
Month on month it declined by 5.5 per cent from July to August, according to latest figures from AAPA.
During the first eight months of the year cargo volumes declined by 3.8 per cent at 40,675/freight tonne kilometres compared to corresponding period 2010 of 42,275 FTK with freight capacity up by one per cent.
