FedEx expands Hong Kong airport floor space

FedEx Express has expanded its facility at Hong Kong International Airport to enable greater cargo handling capability and to strengthen on-time deliveries, the Shipping Gazette informs.
The expansion saw the facility's floor space increase 37 per cent to 4,695 square metres with the addition of new equipment, staff and storage capacity for more cargo handling. A key improvement is the facility's ability to process three freighter loads of cargo in 45 minutes.
Said Hong Kong managing director Anthony Leung: "The Hong Kong airport facility is constantly ranked number one in on-time performance among all FedEx facilities around the world. This expansion will further strengthen our ability to ensure our customers' satisfaction."
The improved facility now has a total of 14 truck docks and four direct ramp access gates. New equipment includes an additional extendable conveyor belt (two in total) for loading and unloading individual packages, two new scissor lifts (five in total) for air containers and five docks for pallets.
The company has also installed an extra 748 square metres of caster decks to accommodate more air freight containers and speed up movement of cargo shipments directly onto the ramp.
It added that in support of its operations at the expanded facility, the company will increase the number of staff by five per cent and set up additional office space within the premises.
